Do You Know About the Different Types of Fuel?
Auto Haus Volkswagen is one of the premier dealerships in Winnipeg, in part because of our commitment to customers. This includes answering questions and being helpful, in addition to engaging with you in a number of ways. Recently, we asked our friends on Facebook if anyone knew the difference between gasoline, kerosene, diesel, and other kinds of fuel. Nobody responded, but it’s understandable that people would be stumped, because it’s a really tough question! Of course, we’ll be happy to break it down for you.
The Difference Between Gasoline, Kerosene, and Diesel Fuel?
We were curious how many of us really know the difference between gasoline, kerosene, and diesel. While, again, no one joined the discussion, it’s not too late! To add your reply, join us on Facebook today — we’d love to hear from you.
The real chemical difference between the three has to do with their boiling points. When crude oil is pumped from the ground, it contains hydrocarbons. These atoms are linked together in chains of varying lengths. The different lengths have different properties and behave differently.
You see, each chain has a different boiling point, and this is how they are separated from one another. Gasoline is a blend of several different chains that all vaporize at a temperature lower than the boiling point of water. Kerosene is separated next, then diesel. That’s the simple version, at least.
Of course, another difference between the three fuel types is what they are used for. Gasoline and diesel are most commonly used to power vehicles, while kerosene is most often used for lighting and heating applications.
